Bye, Boone Dog

Bradley's first word was "doggie," for his doggie Boone. These days, Bradley likes to play "Answering questions." He wants to answer how old he is, how old Daddy is, how old Mommy is, what his birthday is, what Daddy's birthday is, what city he lives in and of course what his favorite ride is at Chuck E Cheese. And if you ask him, "Who do you like better, Mommy or Daddy?" he will give the politically correct reply, "Both."

But if you ask him "Who's your favorite doggie," he will, without the slightest hesitation, say "Boone." He's met and loved other dogs, and sure, at times, he has been a little, let's say "rough" with Boone. But he loved that dog. "Want Boone, want Boone," he said on her last day with us. And, despite being afraid of him at times, Boone loved Bradley, too. She would lick him over and over as if Bradley was one of her own. Bradley would always laugh his head off when he fed her treats.

Boone passed away today. She was a great doggie. She was with Daddy for fourteen years. She was Daddy's baby before Bradley was Daddy's baby. She had kidney disease that came on really fast. She ultimately refused to eat. She came home from the vet today after dialysis unable to stand for more than a few seconds, twitching, wandering aimlessly and unwilling to eat anything. So, we had to let her go. Before Daddy took her to the emergency vet, Bradley got in a last hug and kiss in and said, "Bye Boone." Mommy and Daddy cried their eyes out for the old girl.

We will all miss you, Boone Dog. We will always have only the best thoughts and memories of you.
