Mom and Dad had their first parent-teacher conference for Bradley. We were nervously awaiting word on whether Bradley should go to kindergarten or be held back. Comments on him included, "His reading skills are amazing!" and "Bradley is a sweet boy." He was lauded for comforting and hugging other kids that are sad or hurt. He "aced" all his tests, except he is not really motivated to color (unless it is a blue colored pencil), draws the number 3 backwards and can't skip yet. He knew all of his letters (of course), he knew all his colors and he "gets a little carried away with the y" at the end of his written name. He laughs with all the other kids at appropriate times. However, he has his meltdowns, and has trouble with eye contact when he is having a meltdown. He also is a bit of a follower on the playground, which can lead to trouble sometimes. He also has a thousand explanations when he gets in trouble. He is the youngest kid in his class, so the maturity issues are to be expected. His birthday is August 27th, and the cutoff is September 1st, so he will likely be the youngest when he reaches kindergarten, too.
At the end of the day, the teachers recommended that he go to kindergarten, mostly because he is so smart. Otherwise, he would probably be bored. With his maturity, that should progress because he'll see other kids being more mature.
